If like me you've been hanging out for this book you will not be disappointed.Picking up from the last book the team (Vivian, Rafe, and Jon, etc.) arrive home in Alaska looking at an overwhelming and uncertain future, with the prospect of facing truely evil ancient vampires, who show none of the humanity, strength and character of Vivien as she struggles to keep those she cares about alive, whilst beginning the process of finding the vampires Vivienne has turned in the past 500 years.
This instalment has exciting twists and turns, hot sexy characters, explores intricate relationships while being entertaining and a page turner - I got so enveloped in the story it was a one sitting read. The only issue now is waiting for the next instalment.

I love this series and was very excited to continue this journey with these amazing characters.
This series is very unique to me with so many Vampire type books out there. The main character Vivian and her husband Rafe own a vacation spot in Alaska. This series follows the good and bad that can happen to even one of the strongest Vampire there is. You learn about her past and how she became who she is along with the romance that has flowered between her and Rafe during the years
Vivian's main servant has something he needs to tell her but doesn't know how she will handle it. She does have some enemies which she is trying to figure out who they all are. She does like harmony but if she needs to heat things up,she has no problem doing that.
This book jumps right in from the previous installment and I suggest you read this series in order. Many twist and turns , you won't be disappointed!
One of the things that stand out most for me is how this writer manages to entwine multiple situations around a storyline. Coupling the complexity with mad writing skills, it glues me deeply into the book. Now this book is part of a series so yes, it's best read in order. Honestly, if this one was the first I read, it really would make me want to read the prior ones not just to fill in the unknown history, but because it is a literary work of art. The characters feel real, and my emotions were fully engaged and I find myself hanging on the edge with other fellow readers now waiting for the next. There is happiness and heartbreak abound in this book so be prepared!
C. J. Ellisson has done it again! In Sharpening the Blade she continues the story of Vivian and her seethe. This author created a world in northern Alaska where super naturals come to relax. The series has led the readers through highs and lows, twists and unexpected turns. This next installment continues the story, with the same nail biting drama.
Vivian, Rafe and Jon are intertwined throughout the series. They depend on each other for emotional as well as physical security. As the series has grown, more members joined Vivian’s seethe. Each addition brings out the protector in Vivian.
Each book demonstrates the growth of the author as well. Her prose and insights deepen the relationships between the characters thus given them more depth. I always finish reading wanting more. I can’t wait until the next book comes out.
C.J has stated that the next book will be the final in this series. (I'm hopeful she'll continue writing the characters.) Part of me thought I should wait until the 7th book comes out because I know I will desperately want to continue on. I ignored myself and was right! Wow, this one started at a very steady pace of preparation and a foreboding of things to come. Then the pace picks up very quickly and a twist I didn't see coming at all. Maybe I should've, but I love being surprised! I am now anxiously waiting for the 7th to see what happens to all our beloved characters. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre. Start with the first book as I don't consider each a standalone.
I know C.J almost didn't finish this series, but I'm glad she did. I wish her continued health and success in writing. I know she's going to alter any future editions to have less of the graphic love scenes. I'll continue reading whichever version she writes!
If you are a fan of the genre this series is for you! If you are not, give it a try, this book may change your mind! There is enough backstory given in this book (without overdoing it) for the story to stand alone. However, read it and I guarantee there is enough background to intrigue one to read the previous books. The primary characters, married couple Rafe and Dria are the central characters in all the VV Inn books. This story centers on their preparations to protect their seethe during the uprising against the Tribunal that is to come, and Dria's search into her own past. Within that basic storyline are the accounts of the struggles and side-stories of other individual characters. This book, while told from 4 different character's points of view, is never confusing as some are. Each character's story is developed to the extent to make the change in POV almost seamless. The best review I can give this book is when I came to the end my first thought was "Nooooo, I want to read more, give me more!" The author is one of the best I know at developing characters to that point where you think of them as people you actually know and care about. There is romance, family struggles and tribulations, suspense, deception and intrigue. I hope this series continues. After all vampires are immortal, right?!
The amazing VV Inn saga continues with book 6 Sharpen The Blade. I've read all the books in this series and this one was certainly a page turner. Ancient vampires Persephone and Rolando threaten master vampire Vivian, her human husband Rafe, her entire seethe as well as those Vivian has turned over her lifetime as a vampire. Sit on the edge of your seat and read into the wee hours of the morning to see if the sexy red-headed vamp can outwit the her evil enemies!
I loved the fast paced tempo of this story as well as the danger and intrigue of this wonderful paranormal series. The end of this one had my jaw dropping. Can't wait for book 7!!!
